🔗 Share this article Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the past five race weekends. Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT. The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team followed a different programme. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting. Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight. The veteran ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
