From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
